Try fabric-covered buttons

Choose matching blanks and tools, then let the fabric supply the colour.

Read the kit contents

Covered-button blanks and their assembly tools vary. Confirm that your chosen kit includes the correct tool for the blank diameter. Use the package’s cutting template and assembly instructions instead of assuming every kit takes the same circle.

Choose the fabric placement

Before cutting, place the blank over several parts of the fabric. A small motif can disappear round the edge; a bold patch of colour can work well. Try a spare first so you can see how the fabric thickness behaves with that tool.

Keep care information

The cover fabric affects care. Follow both its care label and the blank manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid assigning one universal washing temperature to every fabric-covered button.

Make a matching record

Keep the blank size, fabric offcut and tool details together. Add a note about placement if you want another button to show the same motif. That small record is more useful than trying to match from memory.
